After two days without mail (I can’t believe the Reverend Doctor Martin Luthor King Jr, great man that he was, would have wanted me to not get mail) I got a bonanza yesterday. I got a black Blue Sun shirt from BlueSunShirts.com, the Serenity dog tag I ordered from SerenityVerse.com, and the bank heist money prop from The Prop Store of London. Read on for a description and a bigger pic.

It’s gorgeous. Nice gold frame, black matting, with the cash and the words “Bank heist money used in” underneath, followed by a stunning Serenity logo consisting of a faded gold shield with the name cut out of the matte to reveal gold matting beneath. It came with a certificate of authenticity from the store. It looks great on my wall, very professional and expensive looking 🙂 I’m happy.
Now, what else do they have…?
I appreciate that fans can get a chance to own all this stuff that the Prop Store is selling. However, I find the prices ridiculous. Why is this store making all this money from these props? How did they get them all from the studio in the first place? I also mourn the fact that selling all this stuff means that it’s going to end up scattered all over the globe in the hands of private collectors, instead of all together in one, awesome, Serenity museum display that can be appreciated by ALL Browncoats. If you own a Serenity or Firefly prop, I encourage you to contact me through my archival website http://www.fireflyguidebook.com to arrange for photos of your prop to appear in my archives for ALL Browncoats to enjoy.
Y’know, when you factor in the matting and framing, the heist cash is almost a steal. Which I suppose is appropriate.
I would guess this store is making this money because this store bought all the props from Universal, which means Universal made back some of the production money, which is, more than likely, a Good Thing. It’s also pretty common for movies, especially those with a strong fan base.

I bought a Serenity heist money plaque too! I think it looks great. And if the day comes that there’s a Serenity museum, it’ll do what all museums do — display items that are on loan from their private owners as well as items it can buy. 🙂
