It’s here! Zip on over to QMx and order your Mal Stunt Pistol replica now!
The Malcolm Reynolds Stunt Pistol is a non-firing, screen-accurate, highly detailed replica of Mal’s most favoritest gun. It’s the only licensed, studio-approved replica available, and is a faithful re-creation of the iconic sidearm from the movie Serenity.
$149.95, and the first 1500 sold will get a poster of Barlow’s Guide to Small Arms explaining the pistol and it’s workin’s. There are plenty of pics and info at QMx and you can see my review and pics here.
And if you’re going to Starfury’s Serenity LA, QMx will be hosting a panel – Bringing the ‘Verse to Life – on Saturday, Nov. 3. Guests will include Serenity Graphic Designer Geoffrey Mandel, QMx artisans Adam Levermore-Rich and Ben Mund.
I just ordered the Mal Stunt Pistol. The only hitch is my wife said it is my Christmas present and I can’t have it until then. I will of course open and inspect it before it is hidden away.

Woo Hoo! My Mal Pistol has just shipped. I just need to get to the mail before my wife does so I can inspect it before she snatches it away from me.
Andy, looks like the first couple days of sales have been pretty good. I hope they sell out so Universal sees the support behind Serenity.

Mine just arrived.
I’m very impressed with it, and I like it a lot. I got one of those unofficial WILCO models for like 50 bucks on ebay a while back, and this totally blows it out of the water in every way shape and form. For any collector of shiny things, this is definitely well worth the money.
I’ve only got two gripes, and they’re both small, as to be practically insignificant. The first is that the paint job is a bit obvious in some areas. It doesn’t look bad, and you can’t tell unless you’re really looking at it up close, but once you do look for it it’s very obvious. Especially along the side of the clip, where there’s an obvious streak that must’ve spilled over some from when they were painting the rest of the gun, and along the front of the barrel. The bottom of the clip was completely devoid of paint entirely (that or was completely painted, I’m not really sure if the bronze is the paint or the base), so it shows up as just a block of dark brown. And the bottom of the grips got somewhat similar treatment, and look like they’ve basically just been streaked with paint, almost as if they assumed nobody would really be looking at the bottom of the gun (which doesn’t make much sense to me).
The second problem is that the plastic ring they inserted into the barrel was very slightly crooked and hadn’t been sanded down entirely, so I had to take an exacto-knife to it to get it to look better.
I’m serious though when I say these are minor problems. This is a truly great looking prop, with a great look and feel, and every detail with the mold is spectacular. I’d say that the really hard-core prop buyers are probably justified in their complaints with the paint job, but these are problems that will probably be solved with the hero version. I have every confidence in Qmx for making great props. For 150 dollars, you can’t go wrong.
My Mal Pistol showed up today as well. I am also VERY pleased with the quality and feel of the piece. The detail is amazing down to tiny hex head screws, sharp lines and outstanding molding process. There are absolutely no flaws or bubbles in the resin. The bronze and aluminum finish is very good in consistency and appearance. It is cool to the touch so the addition of the metallic powders in the injection process is effective. I have to agree though with Tyshalle on the black wash or aging process. I does look “Painted” on and not like real aging metal. I am going to take some scotch brite to these areas and try to soften the edges a bit. I did not have the same issue with the bottom of the ammo clip or the bottom of the grips. Since each one is hand painted, I’m sure there will be differences from piece to piece. My overall rating, 9/10. I’m glad I bought it for my collection and I think the price was extremely reasonable. I would love to hear other opinions.

Oh Shoot (no pun)! I forgot to mention the documents that came with the package. The Owners Guide, Certificate of Authenticity and the License to Carry are all really nice touches. Once I find a suitable case for the pistol, these will be perfect for framing and will create a great looking display. Each document is nicely finished and looks aged. And of course there are all the small details we have come to expect from Ben. Nice Job!
