The 2-disc Special Edition of Serenity has been announced for July. And Joss stopped by Whedonesque to give us the skinny. You’ll need to read his comments for the full effect, but the quick n dirty version is that we get the Aussie extras, the River Tam sessions, as much crew commentary as can be managed, and new artwork.
I may emit a manly shriek.
So, if you were granted three wishes and got the wealth and bathtubs of cocktail weinies out of the way, what would you want to see on this special edition? Keep in mind that Joss has gone on record many times as saying the released version was the director’s cut, so no longer versions.
Me, I’d ask for the video we saw only glimpses of in one of the Aussie region’s documentaries: the cast and Joss sitting around a table doing the first read-thru.
I’d also like the DVD artwork to be done by 11th Hour, since she’s already done the best one yet. If for whatever reason Universal is antsy about that, get Jason Palmer. But keep it in the family!
I’d like the entire cast to do commentaries, in groups of three so we can hear them, with Joss or Nathan being one of each set to keep things moving.
And if we’re talking total pipe dream, I’d like to watch the movie exactly as is, rescored by Greg Edmondson.
What would you like?
And so perfectly timed for the month after the charity screenings….
I may emit a womanly sqeeeeeee!
*faints* BEST NEWS OF THE DAY! This should be so exciting! And may I just add that 11th Hour’s work just makes me drool. So beautiful!
You mean I gotta buy Serenity AGAIN? Gorrammit! 😉
As for wished-for features, how about a “Done the Impossible” trailer, to show the love for the fans?
Good thing I waited to buy it.
I am so glad that the Tam sessions will be on there! hopefully, a good explanation of rhe background and whatnot.
and of course, the Serenity extended gag reel!
Great news! Now I can see the stuff on the Aussie version that I own but can’t play.
For whatever weird reason, I’d love to see some behind-the-scenes Reaver makeup sessions.
Also, I’d like to be digitally added to the film. (If no major roles are available, I’ll settle for being a carcass strapped to the front of Serenity).
I would love to see an extended Firefly soundtrack – something with two discs and including all of the episodes music that were not included in the existing soundtrack.
The entire movie, rescored by Greg Edmondson AND…
refilmed, with all the roles being played by plastic dinosaurs and voiced by Alan Tudyk.
Or a ton of commentary tracks – the ones from the Firefly episodes are among the best I have ever listened to from a dvd set.
I’d also like a pony and a plastic rocket
A short featurette of Alan trying to juggle geese while Adam belts out ‘The Hero of Canton’.
That would put the ‘Special’ in Special Edition.
I’d love to see how Alan would have killed off Wash OR an interview with each cast member on how they would have killed off Wash – heck even Book. The funny zany comments alone would prompt popcorn and tissues. Also want to see Greg’s score for the movie AND have the disk play it if inserted into a cd player. It should come in an aluminum case complete with a pony and plastic rocket OR a T-shirt that says “I watched Wash die and all I get is this lousy T-shirt(and Serenity Special edition).”
I would be very interested in Joss/Tim jam sessions; anything where we can see the two of them working on a script and how it came together.
I must amend my earlier answer.
If a genie said I could have whatever I wanted on the Special Edition?
My wished-for feature would be a trailer for Serenity II.
I would like to add two more comments on what would be cool on the Special Edition disk. 1. music video from the Bedlam Bards (Trilogy) 2. A new video from the man himself letting us fans know that we may just be flying again soon…I can dream can’t I?
I know, I know that the current release is the director’s cut but it would be neat to have an option to view the film as is and an option to view it with the deleted scenes cut in. They don’t even have to be restored. I think it would be a fun feature to have and could easily be done because of the seamless branching feature in the DVD spec. Also a DTS soundtrack would be sweet!
