Tonight Heroes returns and we’ll find out what’s up with Peter’s dreams, where Hiro gets that cool sword, and whether or not Sylar steals powers by eating Brain Slushees. Or not. More likely we’ll get even more twists and turns, with a few answers leading to more questions as we head into new episodes after the winter hiatus.
Heroes is about a group of people who discover they possess superhuman powers and, using them, work to stop an apocalyptic disaster from happening to NBC. We follow each of them as they deal with their abilities, and the various factions of people and shadowy groups who want to control them. It’s well-written, it answers questions faster than Lost, it’s guaranteed to have at least one character you really, really hope will die, and is far more compelling than, say, Smallville, which is pretty sad if you think about it. The world’s greatest superhero just isn’t as interesting as a geeky Japanese guy. Sorry, DC.
We’re also moving into a new slogan. The first run of shows was advertised with “Save the Cheerleader, Save the World,” which perfectly described the events that drove many of the characters together until they, you know, saved her, necessitating another T-shirt design. The slogan for the next seven episodes is “Are You on the List?”, an ominous and nicely vague question that I really hope ties into The L-Word’s chart somehow, a crossover that would slam 24‘s ratings into pulp.
If you want a closer look, head to the FX 2007 convention in Orlando this weekend. Guest stars include Hayden Panettiere (Claire, the cheerleader) and Zach Quinto (Sylar, the brain-sucking-maybe villian). You can also see stars from Firefly — Ron Glass (Book), Adam Baldwin (Jayne), and Christina Hendricks (Saffron) — as well as from just about every hot science fiction property around. Michael Biehn and Lance Henriksen from Aliens, Kenny Baker (R2D2) and Ray Park (Darth Maul) from Star Wars, the cast of the upcoming movie Fanboys (including Kristen Bell from Veronica Mars), William Katt from The Greatest American Hero, the sheriff and his daughter from Eureka, Andy Hallett (Lorne) from Angel, Bianca Lawson (Kendra) from Buffy, and a bunch more. FX does pull in the stars… More details here.
William Katt? Are you joking? What the heck is he doing in this crowd of celebrities? I don’t think he qualifies anymore. Catagorizing that silly and forgetable show sci-fi is a stretch.
I didn’t say it was good science fiction…
FX is also producing a limited edition “Greatest American Hero” doll, to be sold only at the con. Never underestimate the power of a cheesy TV show.
William Katt is unassuming, intelligent and will be a fantastic guest, ok so the greatest american hero was cheese but he knows that and I’m sure will be fun
