“Undressed” by Zane Stafford
(Listen to it here)
There upon the lips
That melt good hearts and sink their ships
I started falling
Then I stopped falling
For your naiveté undressed
The cellar door, the elder’s best
As your true colors had their say
And the lights around me faded away
Will you know shame when my gun sings your name
As you quick depart, and play it smart, and get out of the way
Saffron
Cos you were born to play the game of love and scorn
‘cross a trail marked, a hundred hearts, that never knew your name
Saffron
Shudder in your alabaster skin
Keep still, you won’t catch me again
Never mind the hips with which you led
I want the truth after leaving us for dead
There’s got to be a better way
To have your cake, to win the day
Than with ringing bells and meant-to-bes
Here steepled in your treacheries
And with weapons drawn, now turns this pawn
Oh Krokus in disguise show me all your lies
Know your shame, and speak your name
Is it just too far, to tell me who you are
Will you know shame when my gun sings your name
As you quick depart, and play it smart, and get out of the way
Saffron
Cos you were born to play the game of love and scorn
‘cross a trail marked, a hundred hearts, that never knew your name
Saffron
Will you know shame
Saffron
Will you know shame

From the creator:
Congratulations on an excellent idea for a contest. It’s been quite a challenge.
My song covers two scenes in Our Mrs. Reynolds, the goodnight kiss, and when Mal finally tracks Saffron down. It’s in the later scene that he asks her about who she really is—her real name—and it’s her inability to let down her guard, to be “undressed” emotionally in front of him, that this song is about. When one is ashamed of something they hide it and refuse to acknowledge its existence. Mal gives her a way out, a way to be honest, but alas, we all know that she’d have only lied.
This has been a lot of fun, I hope to see this competition continue on.
That song is freakin’ amazing. I seriously can imagine hearing this on a Top 40 station someday. Zane, you’ve got some talent, my friend.
Very nice! I love it – too bad I can’t download it now. Keep up the awesome work!
