Not only do you get the Serenity CE DVD out today, you also get a brand new QMx website with plenty of cool new products and services, as well as some welcome changes.
First up, the Blue Sun Travel Posters are now on sale. 5 full-color prints of the best vacation destinations in the ‘verse, with art by BlackMarketBeagles.com maven and new QMx Artisan Adam Levermore-Rich. This officially licensed set contains 5 full-color, 17″ x 22″ prints on 100-pound, satin-finish paper, suitable for framing. Included are posters inviting you to travel to historic Serenity Valley, tranquil Miranda, exciting Persephone, beautiful Sihnon and inspiring Londinium. $29.95.
And, if you’re more the postcard type, they’re also selling packs of WaveCards! 25 in a pack, complete with descriptions of the locations in question, perfect for spreading the word to your friends and family. $19.95.
You’ll also get more information on the Official Serenity Ship’s Papers by Whitefall (Ben Mund) that were announced last week. 13 full-color sheets of various sizes up to 8-1/2″ x 14″. Certificates are hand-stamped with the official seals of the Alliance, and are hand-signed (in English and Chinese) by the appropriate Alliance official. These have been built from the ground up with input from Serenity graphic designer Geoff Mandel and include everything a ship’s captain might need to slide past an Alliance checkpoint. And I mean everything. On sale August 25, $119.95.
(And check out the new galleries attached to all the items. Clear pics of every aspect of QMx’s offerings!)
Also just announced: the Serenity Blueprints Reference Pack. You wanted the blueprints in an easy to handle, easy to reference form, and you’ve got it. QMx doesn’t resissue limited edition products but they did listen to the many people wanting copies of the blueprints to use for gaming reference, or just to pass around, so they’ve created a smaller set in a spiral bound edition. But, since they’re overachievers, they added a bit more stuff. Like, more than 20 pages more stuff. Including (big breath):
Builder plaques, door designs, insignias, warning labels, closeups of the shuttle and flying mule, all display screens from the bridge including key system interfaces, such as the proximity scan, planetary scan and systems status (all designed by Geoff Mandel), and designs for the Series 1, Series 2 and Series 4 Fireflies and the Independent Military’s Series 3 Gunboat variant used extensively in the Unification War (designed by Tim Earls, co-creator of the original Firefly design from “Firefly”). And a forward written by science fiction writer and avowed Browncoat Orson Scott Card. This one’s coming soon and may be the coolest thing you buy all year.
There’s also a Browncoat Resources section with info on popular ‘versy places to visit. And I guess there’s lots of new BSG. Stargate, SciFi, and Movie Monster stuff added as well, but I tend to stay focused.
And of particular note to QMx shoppers, two important changes have been made. First, they will no longer take preorders for items that do not have a firm, to-the-hour release date. Things happen, schedules get blown, and they want to be upfront with their customers, i.e. us. Secondly, and kinda related, they are discontinuing the X-Pay laway system.
And if they wasn’t enough, the site just looks cool. Galleries for every product. Bigger pages of descriptions. LOTS of stuff to drool over. Head to www.quantummechanix.com and be prepared to spend some time browsing and wondering just how important your next car payment is, anyway.
Hmmm… I don’t see anything on the site about getting those personalized “Discharge and Amnesty” papers if you order within the first 24 hours (on the 25th).
Aren’t they going to be advertising this “bonus” before they go on sale?
It would be nice to know what sort of photo needs to be supplied (file size? resolution?…) before you’re having to click “SUBMIT”.
Hey there YodaMac –
The Amnesty sheet is a special bonus for folks who buy in the first 24 hours; we’re purposely not putting this on the main site because it’s a special for subscribers to the QMx Insider (http://insider.quantummechanix.com) and, of course, readers of SerenityStuff 😉
As for the format – after you make your purchase (in the first 24 hours), we’ll e-mail you for the details and a file. You can pretty much use any photo you’d like or even go take one. We’ll mail you your Amnesty sheet separately, so it won’t hold up the arrival of your ship papers.
You can even use an alias, if you like. Maybe you could be the *real* Capt. Harbatkin? 😉

I love the new site design and it’s great to get some updates. I know this is a Serenity board, but the mention of Forbidden Planet in the sci-fi classics section has me very excited (I would imagine that they wouldn’t be mentioning it if they didn’t have the license to it). Could a C-57D replica be coming?
And keep cranking out the posters. I love how the Serenity and BSG ones have a retro-futurism look to them.
(talking through gritted teeth) will… not… pre-announce… products…. must… resist… urge… to… talk!
😉
Thanks; those are all up to Adam Levermore-Rich, who we love! We’re also working with The FX Company – one of the top independent model effects companies around – to build some ultra-shiny high-end stuff. We’re even working on lighting effects for a grav rotor that looks way realistic.
Damn you, mouth! You said too much again!
😉
If I win the lottery, can I hire QMx to help PDX Browncoats build our Serenity for next year’s adult soapbox derby? 😉
the PDX browncoats are building a soapbox derby vehicle? Where do I sign up to get in on that?
The new blueprint reference pack will absolutely rock! I’m really excited about this one, with all the new stuff. Being able to handle them will be cool too 😉
“the PDX browncoats are building a soapbox derby vehicle? Where do I sign up to get in on that?”
Here.
b!X! (wait, is that too many exclamation points?) Dude, we’d love to help. The FX guys build sets, too. And, of course you know, we have some pretty good reference to go off of 😉
