Now at Museum Replicas, you can get an official, licensed Browncoat:
The main outer uniform of the Independents during the Unification War and now the favorite duster of Malcolm “Mal” Reynolds, captain of the transport ship, Firefly. This heavy duty, all suede brown coat has leather cuffs and closes using antique brass conchos. Truly a garment to make the Alliance jealous! Dry clean only. Order S/M, or L/XL.
$395, plus shipping.
Wow. Now THAT’S cool. One of these would complete my descent into utter non-recoverable fanboyism.
Had no idea that was coming down the pike. How do you dig this stuff up?
Eh…….
Take it from a guy who spent $1300 bucks to hire Jonathan Logan (the guy who made the real Mal browncoat) to make him a genuine 100% replica, that is a piece of crap. It looks like it belongs on an extra in Pirates of the Caribbean. If you’re looking for a decent browncoat but aren’t crazy enough to spend over a thousand bucks on it, I’d go with the Abbyshot knockoff, personally.
Though this coat does seem to be closer in color to the real browncoat than the Abbyshot coat, everything else is all wrong.
Just my two cents, though.
I agree with Tyshalle. The Abbyshot version is much better just looking at the picture. I got one at D*C ’06 during their D*C sale, nice coat and not much more than they want for that one. Plus they’re re-working their buckles to be even better. 🙂 They also have a leather Zoe vest.
Now the River set & Operative sword Museum Replicas has on the other hand I would definitely like to get. They do usually sell good sturdy weapons. I bought my pirate cutlass from the (the Windlass Steelcraft one, not the cheap $40 version others have) and that thing deals out some abuse.
Tyshalle, what is yours made of? I might be crazy enough to spend that much to get a real one like you, but I don’t want it to be made of suede; suede can’t get wet, and I want to be able to wear mine as an overcoat in all weather. Also, is it warm, or just for show?
I saw the Abbyshot coatand Dragon*con more than once and I thought IT was CRAP.
