Brian May has written a book that explains the universe.
Let’s go over that again. Brian May, wizard guitarist from the rock group Queen, has written a book that explains the universe.
I’m not sure why, but this cheered me up immensely. May — who abandoned his astrophysicist doctorate 30 years ago to hang out with his band, with some small success — didn’t write it on his own. He was joined by Sir Patrick Moore, director of the Armagh observatory in Northern Ireland and host of “The Sky at Night,” the longest running science show ever, and Chris Lintott, professional astronomer and, presumably, backup vocals. The book, “Bang! The Complete History of the Universe,” hopes to explain the same sort of things that Steven Hawking did but with words we mere humans can handle.
My favorite quote from the article: “What rock gods and astronomers have in common, their weary editor said yesterday, is that both are nocturnal animals.”
