100 retailers won the Dark Horse 100 contest and received 10 each of this ultra-rare version of “Serenity: Better Days” #1 with a wrap-around cover by artist Will Conrad. That means only 1000 of these were made, and you know you want one. How can that happen?
First, check the list of winners to see if your local comic store was one of the lucky ones, and then head over there and start your begging. You’re a known browncoat there, right? Friendly and helpful and one of the regulars? Depending on the store, maybe you’ll get lucky.
If not, head to eBay, where they’re already popping up for sale. Prices are varying wildly, so try different combinations of search terms to see if you can nab one that maybe not everyone is seeing.
Good luck, travelers, and if you find any good sources please post ’em in the comments.
So the dude on the back cover is…Ben Affleck?
Another option? Check the list of winning retailers, look them up online, and email them. I did this the day Dark Horse released the list, and I found someone willing to sell me one of theirs for $35.00, which I think will end up being a fair price. All of his are now spoken for so I’m not posting his name, but just wanted to make the suggestion. That’s a long list and who knows, you could get lucky!
Another option is just wait for the trade paperback edition which will surely include all the art it can.
I bought a copy yesterday at Supanova convention in Brisbane for $75. The retailer was Kings Comics from Sydney – apparently they are the only retailer in Australia to have got the variant cover. So I got 1 of the only 10 available for retail within Australia – yay!
