Grabbed their “Greatest Hits” album to save myself some time and yay! Enjoyed some of them! Here’s my incredibly shallow and judgmental play by play:
1. My Maria – Bleah. Whiny.
2. Honky Tonk Truth – Just plain fun.
3. You’re Gonna Miss Me When I’m Gone – Nah.
4. Boot Scootin’ Boogie – Not bad, I liked “Honytonk” better. Maybe I just like partying songs?
5. He’s Got You – More whining.
6. Hard Workin’ Man – Hard to call. Not really the sort of thing I think I’d like, but I keep wanting to sing along with it. Does that mean I like it? Got me.
7. That Ain’t No Way to Go – Started OK but got too maudlin.
8. Rock My World (Little Country Girl) – I think I’d love this in a bar or club, but then music heard in clubs operates on different principles than music you listen to any other time. Fun song. 9. Neon Moon – Nah.
10. Lost and Found – Twang, twang, twang. And the first cheating wife song so far.
11. She’s Not the Cheatin’ Kind – Twang, twang, twang. And the second cheating wife song so far.
12. Brand New Man – Not bad, not great.
13. Days of Thunder – Not sure about this one. I’ll move it to the maybe bin and try again later.
14. We’ll Burn That Bridge – Was all the way through this song before I remembered I was listening to it, which means I didn’t dislike it enough to register annoyance but didn’t like it enough to give it any attention.
15. She Used to Be Mine – Ack! Lost wife song! Delete!
16. Mama Don’t Get Dressed up for Nothing – Another dance song. Fair enough.
17. My Next Broken Heart – It’s got the right attitude (making fun of broken heart songs) but prolly not one I’d need to hear more than once every year or so.
18. Whiskey Under the Bridge – I like this, I think.
So, four or five songs I want to hear again, at least one I like enough to stick on my car CD. Not bad for any album, much less one I didn’t think I’d like (although a Greatest Hits album should prolly have a higher ratio).
