We’re in the midst of watching seasons of Monk on DVD. A fun quirky show about an obsessive compulsive detective. Funny, better written than I expected, very addictive. We’ve been watching them one after another and loving them, Tony Shalhoub is brilliant and the supporting cast members each manage to make what should be cardboard characters into living, breathing people.
And yet, something’s wrong.
Not the shows, they’re great. No, it’s more subtle than that, something that just…
The season one DVD set is in individual sleeves. The season two discs are in a foldout container. Season three hasn’t arrived from Amazon yet, but season four has discs back in the individual sleeves.
They don’t match.
The title and pictures on the box edges match well enough, but the second season set is a little shorter than the others, it really shows when they’re lined up on a shelf, in a row. It’s really obvious, I don’t know why they would have made them wrong like that. They should re-release them correctly, I think that would be best for everybody.
They’ll thank me later.
And just think—— With all the worlds problems, and someone is fretting over the way some mindless dribble is boxed. Oh well,,,go figure.
don’t you hate that? in the old VHS days, it took forever for a series of any kind to achieve continuity in packaging.
the Star Trek movies, for example, came out in all sorts of designs and then every so often they’d put out a set. but as soon as you bought that set more movies would have come out and then a new set.
you’d just have to wait until the series was finished forever and then wait for the super-deluxe-all-encompassing- special-edition set to appear. then you could donate all your previous sets to the local library or have a yard sale.
you’re going to have to wait till Monk is cancelled and the s-d-a-e-s-e set comes out. i’m sure that will be uniform in size and appearance and more appropos to your shelf ambience.
either that or give up the idea of ownership and spend more time at Blockbuster.
We got season three. Individual discs. Season two just glares at me now, alone in its individuality. It mocks me at night. I can hear it.
And just think; with all the world’s problems, you’re reading this blog. If that’s how you want to spend your time, I guess…
Its amazing is it not? It is as if differant production and distribution companies are bidding for the distribution contract in different years. Each finding a new and more effiecient way to skim off more profit from the packaging! Thank goodness the rights holders don’t really have OCD!
